"Runners-up were England’s Timothy Howson and Joanne Bolton.
They were first in Viennese Waltz and Foxtrot and second in others. History will
record that Mirko and Alessia won the Worlds, the marks show that it would only
take one change of place in two of each dance to change the result. Timothy and
Joanne danced a superb first round, showing that they were here to mean
business. Exemplary in every department of elegance, quality and technique, they
almost pulled it off. Beautiful fleckerl. Some nice and well displayed new
Quickstep choreography. Any figure prior to three step in Foxtrot appeared that
Timothy was late in follow through to the three step. I feel sure that they will
be there for the next challenge."

Now I speak to Timothy Howson and
Joanne Bolton. They tell me that, prior to Blackpool, they have done all the
hard work so essential if you wish to be considered for the top of the top. In
the Team Match they felt an instant rapport with the floor and, during the
entire match, they had that lovely feeling which told them it was all going to
plan and that the work done had brought their performance to fruition and all
ready for their night of nights. They will try to defend the basic principles of
movement to music, combining technique with artistry.

"Timothy
Howson & Joanne Bolton ... Waltz The Importance of the First Dance. Having
last year lectured on Waltz fundamentals, it was a great challenge once again
this year for Tim and Jo to follow this with more fundamentals within the very
important dance which sets up your very first performance in a competition. Of
course they commenced with a beautiful performance of that dance to whet our
appetites for explanations of how they produced their expertise -and we were not
disappointed. Tim tells everyone that thousands of items can fly through the
mind. Floor surface, feel of swing etc., etc., but the main item is what we give
each other ... and it has to be connection and sensitivity of the hands and
centre, use of the principles of inside and outside turns, some of the use of
joints and of course the timing. If you take some muscle tone Out of your body
and arms and put it into your hand connection it helps and they, plus the centre,
give the girl information. The hands are very sensitive to each other. With
great humour Tim tells us that J0 cannot complain today or the microphone will
allow everyone to hear The messages however are not verbal, they are all done
through the hands and the centre. When dancing turns there is no point at which
you dance at the same speed as each other. The outside goes faster than the
inside and if you both dance at the same speed it will not be correct. The body
joints from the hips down must work together in unison hips, knees, ankles and
toes and there must be coordination, man to girl and girl to man. Timing you
dance together, using that coordination of joints with the man having the choice
of the speed of timing, and you should use half beat counting to get this
coordination. If you feel good when you dance then you go home happy Timothy
tells us ... how true. This is again a lecture which details items which are
absolutes in dance and, when it is told by people of such dance calibre,
everyone simply must accept the information and work to achieve the expertise
available through fundamentals as always and as achieved by Timothy and Joanne."

*A Total Classical And Beautiful
Presentation To Fill The Eyes, Ears And Hearts Of All Traditionalists*
"BRITISH ‘OPEN’
PROFESSIONAL STANDARD CHAMPIONSHIP TO
TIMOTHY AND JOANNE
The British professional Standard Championship for the
year 2005 was won by that most authentic pair of superb Ballroom dancers,
Timothy Howson and Joanne Bolton (England), with placings of 1st
Waltz, 1st Foxtrot, 2nd Tango and 3rd
Quickstep.
Nothing exaggerated, nothing ostentatious, a totally
classical and beautiful presentation to fill the eyes, ears and hearts of all
traditionalists, exciting in its purity and adherence of fundamentals. A great
win in a tremendous competition culminating in a terrific final.
Into second place………My thoughts on the finalists were
as follows:
First Timothy and Joanne. A Waltz combining rich
swing with weightless hovers and powerful spins, all in perfect harmony with the
music plus feet to die for, all augmented by faultless technique. A foxtrot of
incredible continuity filled with basic figures, feather finish followed by
three step, then feather step, another three step into hairpin feather into
continuous reverse waves, unhurried with perfect balance and shape, all
exquisitely timed. They won both of these dances with a straight majority of
first placings. It is in Tango that I feel they are most improved, gaining five
of the judges first placings (six needed for a majority automatic first place in
the dance). With the two terrific Italian pairings each gaining three of the
judges’ first placings, and under that strange challenge to mathematical logic
that we know as the ‘Skating System’, second placings decided the dance winner
and Timothy and Joanne were placed second. Their Tango was atmospheric, animal,
with prowl and growl and explosions of movement, plus about as close as we can
expect a cultured Englishman to go to exuding passion. Whew!
|
|
With all couples dancing flat out to the last beat of
music nobody had a majority of first placings in Quickstep and Rule 11 then Rule
10 were needed to reach a decision which saw Timothy and Joanne in third place
but sufficient to crown them Champions. A fitting reward for a lifetime of
dedication to perfection in dance."

"Timothy
and Joanne Bolton, still fresh from their fantastic performance and win at the
International in October, were once again in great form, winning all dances.
Timothy and Joanne constantly strive for perfection in dance fundamentals and
provide a wonderful example to those couples behind and of course the many young
exponents watching this excellent professional event. Many congratulations."
