Warren Bullock
reporting from Blackpool on the third day of the British National: "Timothy
Howson & Joanne Bolton (22222). About twelve months ago, Timothy and
Joanne developed a new powerful and determined look to their dancing with steely
body tone. Appearing so focused and charged, and intent on Winning which did
attract, but at the same time, I felt they lost a little softness and pliability
making their action almost forced. Now. they appear to have maintained their new
strengths but have come through this stage with a new freedom and a softer look.
Although for me, a softer approach is still the area to be further
developed. Joanne wore two dresses during this competition, one white, the other
a subtle lime green. Both were outstanding and suited her far better than some
of her recent dresses as they danced so freely and added a much softer look to
compliment their power. I noted that they showed super rotation in their reverse
Fleckerl but the natural looked a little bumpy in an attempt to gain the maximum
rotation. Their best performance to date and I would not have been surprised
had they won."

Ernie Chatt: Commenting on Timothy & Joanne's performance at 48th Elsa Wells: "The contest
for second spot must have been very close indeed. Third place went to Timothy
Howson and Joanne Bolton (England) turning in what was possibly their
best ever performance with a super fluid Foxtrot as their highlight dance.
Joanne was particularly elegant this evening. A new smooth hair style with a
more blonde tint giving added height and I felt that she used a longer and more
positive connection to Timothy thus blending perfectly. He set about
showing us the positive focused performance which they undoubtedly produced. The
combined lightness with power and near perfect musical phrasing and their
craftsmanship is of the highest order. I don't think they have as yet fully
optimised their stance to present their best possible picture but they are very
close to it. Their Tango has improved "out of sight" and their
Viennese Waltz is impressive indeed. Just a touch more freedom now to challenge
for top honours"

Short:
"Delighted the audience with a high class showing. A less
intense showing which gave them an improved softer look. A Tango
full of charter, blissfully without the need of some of today's
"silly figures". They dominated the event - outstanding
winners."

Reavely: " Timothy Howson- Joanne Bolton are totally focused in Tango and
using speedy foot dexterity ..like Quickstep on the speed.. weight toward
the ball of the foot and it is inducing verve and vivacity which assets are
desirable indeed. Foot speed in Quickstep is excellent ... fast, free, light and
snappy too." |
